Communicating Through Discourse and Tragedy
Miriam Dickler, former Director of Communications for the City of Charlottesville, was on hand through all of the events that happened in Charlottesville, Virginia that ended in tragedy on August 12, 2017.  Two opposing protester groups clashed over Civil War statues and it turned not only violent, but deadly.  On the same day, a state police helicopter went down killing all on board.  Learn from someone who has been there and done that and how to handle the unimaginable.

Your Norfolk, Your Life
"Your Norfolk. Your Life." is a video PSA series to highlight programs and services the City of Norfolk provides to its residents, in the vein of NBC’s “The More You Know” series. Each PSA runs 15 to 30 seconds, hosted by a variety of city staffers. Scripts include an outline of the service and how residents can access it. These informational pieces can live across city channels: as “commercials” on Inside Scoop; as “commercials” on TV48; on department websites; on Norfolk.gov; on social media.

These PSAs serve a specific purpose: to close the gap between the services the city provides to its residents and what those residents know about the services. Our last resident input survey identified this key communications need: the more residents know about the services we provide, the happier they are with provided services!
  • Michelle Washington, Public Relations Manager - City of Norfolk, VA
