Maurice Chaney is an award-winning communications professional with more than 26 years of experience in the public and private sectors.
He currently serves as Public Information Officer for the City of Roseville’s Environmental Utilities department, where he leads communications, marketing and community engagement for the city’s water, wastewater, and solid waste utilities. He also oversees the Utility Exploration Center, a hands-on learning center focused on public education around utilities and environmental sustainability.
Before joining Roseville, Maurice spent nearly seven years with the City of Sacramento, supporting media relations, digital communications and major economic development efforts, including Sacramento’s downtown arena. He also previously worked for Sacramento County and began his career with Jones & Stokes, now ICF, supporting environmental public participation projects throughout the state.
His work has focused on strategic communications, issues management, media relations, branding and public engagement, using a research-based approach to better understand audiences and shape effective communication strategies. Collaboration has also been central to his work, bringing together staff, community partners and stakeholders to solve problems and communicate complex issues clearly.
In 2024, Maurice received CAPIO’s Paul B. Clark Achievement Award, the organization’s highest individual honor for public-sector communicators.
Maurice earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a minor in Sociology from UC Davis.
